Frequently Asked Questions
How estimates, pricing and projects work at Atlas.
Answers to the questions we hear most. For anything not covered here, call or text (603) 688-6096.
Getting started
How do I get an estimate?
Call or text (603) 688-6096, or use the form on any page. We start with a short call, then visit the house, measure and look at what matters for your project. After the visit you get a written estimate and our recommendations.
Can I get a price before anyone comes out?
Yes, for common projects. The Instant Ballpark gives a range for siding, windows, entry doors, painting, vinyl plank floors, drywall repair, bathrooms, kitchens, decks, attic air sealing and rental unit turns. For additions, ADUs and new homes, use the cost planner.
Is the ballpark a quote?
No. It is a range for a house in normal condition. The written estimate after a site visit is the number we stand behind.
Which towns do you serve?
Every town and city in New Hampshire, including Coos County and the far north, and nowhere outside New Hampshire. See our service areas page for county and town pages.
How we work
What happens after I accept an estimate?
We sign a contract and take a deposit, and then we can put you on the schedule. See our process.
Who is responsible for subcontractors?
Atlas is. If a subcontractor makes a mistake, we make it right, whether or not the subcontractor makes it right with us.
Do you clean up during the job?
Yes. In occupied homes we clean up anything that would disrupt day-to-day living while the project is underway.
How do I reach you during a project?
John Barker responds to clients all week. Call or text when something cannot wait.
Older homes, lead and mold
My house was built before 1978. What changes?
Work that disturbs painted surfaces follows the EPA RRP lead-safe rules: containment, careful work methods, cleanup and a cleaning check. It is part of the written scope. See lead-safe renovation.
Do you test for mold?
No. Atlas does not test, sample or assess for mold; a third-party certified assessor does. We repair the damage and fix the cause. See mold cleanup and repair.
What if you find rot behind the siding or tile?
We stop, show you what we found and price the repair before we cover it up. Hidden damage is never in a ballpark range, because nobody can see it in advance.
Pricing
Do your prices include permits?
Town permit fees, where a permit is required, are listed separately on the estimate.
Why might your price be higher than another bid?
Often because ours includes work that lower bids leave out: tear-off instead of siding over, taped housewrap and flashing, waterproofing behind shower tile, air sealing before attic insulation. Our cost guides list these items so you can compare.
Can you price a few options?
Yes. An estimate can lay out several tiers of work, so you can choose the one that fits.
