How an Atlas home is built
Every Atlas high-performance home uses the same tested shell: plywood sheathing (never OSB), a fully adhered Vycor enV-S air and water barrier, continuous TimberBoard wood-fiber insulation outside the framing, a ventilated rainscreen and a vented over-roof, with balanced ERV or HRV ventilation and right-sized heat pumps inside. The walls are built to dry in both directions. See our wall and roof assemblies for how each layer works.
How a new home comes together with Atlas
- Bring a sketch, a plan set or just a list of what you need. We build from your plans or develop a design with our drafting partners.
- We review the walls, roof, windows and mechanical systems for performance before anything is priced.
- You see the cost both ways. Our cost planner shows planning ranges for real Atlas designs built to code minimum and to the Atlas standard.
- The finished house gets a blower-door test, so airtightness is measured, not assumed.
Why it matters
Moisture trapped in cold sheathing is one of the most common reasons newer houses rot, grow mold or need early repairs. A warm, vapor-open wall greatly lowers that risk, and a tight, well-ventilated house is more comfortable and healthier to live in. Our honest comparison of high-performance and standard construction walks through the costs and trade-offs.
Common questions
Do you build from my own plans?
Yes. We can build from plans you already have, or help you develop a design with our drafting partners. Either way we review the assemblies for performance before pricing.
Is high-performance construction more expensive?
It costs more up front. Our cost planner shows the planning ranges we priced for real concept designs both ways, so you can see the difference before you commit.
