Home Improvement Cost Guides for New Hampshire

Real ranges from the Atlas estimator for the projects we do most, with what is included and what changes the price.

These guides use the same estimator as our Instant Ballpark. Each one shows example houses, the range our estimator returns for them, what changes the price and exactly what is included and left out. We publish them because comparing contractors is hard when nobody shows their numbers.

How to read these ranges

A ballpark range is not a quote. It assumes the house is in normal condition and that nothing unexpected is behind the walls. Rotted sheathing, old leaks, wiring problems and town permit fees are priced once we know about them. The written estimate after a site visit is the number we stand behind.

Every range includes the work that lower bids often leave out, such as tear-off and housewrap on siding, waterproofing behind shower tile, and air sealing before attic insulation. Each guide lists those items so you can check other bids against them.

Using these guides with a contractor

Use the included and not-included lists as a checklist when you compare bids. If one bid is much lower, check it against the list: tear-off, housewrap, flashing, waterproofing, lead-safe work on older homes and cleanup are the items most often missing. Ask each contractor how they would handle hidden damage once the work is open, and whether permit fees are included.
